OK City Sales Tax Trends Have Some Cities Better Prepared for Slowing
Oklahoma’s cities were experiencing widely varying sales tax growth trends through March. Our graphic summarizes year-to-date (through March 2020) growth in taxable sales subject to sales tax for the 500+ cities across the state that levy a sales tax.
A number of cities were already under tremendous pressure from the statewide drilling pullback, while others were accelerating and posting very strong sales tax gains.
The key drilling regions in central and western Oklahoma are generally the weakest. Cities in northeast Oklahoma have the strongest momentum going into the expected slowdown in 2020.
